East Africa Medical Vitals (EAMV), together with officials from the Ministry of Health (MOH) Uganda, and the National Drug Authority (NDA), today received a delegation from the Ministry of Health, South Sudan with a view to begin regional export of medical consumables that include the examination and surgical gloves.
The delegation was led by the Undersecretary MOH, South Sudan, Dr. Victoria Anib Majur, expressed their ministry’s willingness to buy gloves from Uganda, is in true East African Community spirit. She added that this will help them overcome the logistical challenges currently faced with other imports.
Her Ugandan counterpart, David Katabarwa, Undersecretary MOH stressed the fact that economic integration made possible through such partnerships would lead the way to political integration in the East African community.
In his comments, Dr. Okuna Neville Oteba, Commissioner Pharmaceuticals, and Natural Medicines, MOH, Uganda indicated that their presence today earmarked their commitment to market Uganda products to their regional counterparts.
“NDA has offered technical support to EAMV that has taken them from regulation through to certification. We are pleased to say that EAMV possesses the highest award we offer – the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certificate. All their samples passed our audits and meet the international quality standard on gloves”, said Solomon Onen, Drug and cGMP Inspector, NDA.
The Managing Director, EAMV, Brian Kavuya, further reiterated the company’s commitment to be the leading medical consumables manufacturing firm in Sub-Saharan Africa. He added that EAMV is on course for ISO certification mid-2022, after which they shall apply for World Health Organisation (WHO) pre-qualification.
In his closing remarks, Ben Kavuya, Board Chairman, EAMV expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health and National Drug Authority for being present to receive the delegation from South Sudan. He further thanked the visitors for honoring the invitation and showing an interest in their products. He added that whilst the company has only recently started production, EAMV has the ambition to begin the production of syringes, condoms, catheters, and cannulas as well.
